Auckland house prices continue to surge

Asking prices in Auckland led a country-wide surge in house asking prices last month, with the average asking price price of a home in New Zealand breaking through the half a million dollar bracket.  Realestate.co.nz, which lists more than 120,000 properties, released their figures for February recently that showed the national average asking price was now $511,421 last month, up from the previous high of $498,471 in January 2015.  In Auckland the rise was even more pronounced with the average asking price of $764,000, up $87,000 from 12 months ago and more than $200,000 from early 2012. Falling oil prices yet to hit Houston's real estate

Falling oil prices have been widely expected to hit Houston's economy, and ultimately house prices, however January was another record month for the city's housing.  Sales were up 6.1 percent in January as buyers closed on 4,032 single-family homes for a median price of $190,000, according to a monthly report from the Houston Association of Realtors. Sales activity was strongest in the $250,000 to $500,000 price range, while homes less than $150,000 showed declines. The pace of sales has started to slow among homes priced higher than $500,000. Auckland housing gridlocked

The number of houses for sale in Auckland fell to an eight year low in January according to property website realestate.co.nz.  The property website said the available inventory of housing in Auckland was the lowest it had been since it started compiling records in 2007.  Meanwhile, the average asking price for houses for sale in Auckland was $750,023 in January, some 2.4% higher than the previous record high of $732,240 recorded in June 2014.  The shortage of housing was having a gridlock effect on the property market in Auckland as people were reluctant to list their house to sell without securing another one to buy.  James Wilson of QVhomevalue Auckland told the New Zealand Herald the…
